Precarious Equilibrium | Glass Project

Project Brief

To design a piece by following and understanding the theme of Precarious Equilibrium, using glass as a material and techniques involved like glass fusing and glass blowing. The motto of the project was to learn the versatility of glass and experiment with the same. In the final outcome, the piece has to interact with the human body and can be an artistic expression of a utility product

Theme

Precarious Equilibrium refers to a delicate balance, where we refer to precarious (prekares) as fragile and something that is uncertain whereas equilibrium defines stability, balance, and security. For me, glass as a material itself refers to the concept of Precarious Equilibrium, where it possesses both the characteristics of being a fragile and strong material. A minute twist of uncertainty can disrupt the balance of the material.

Project Location :

Pforzheim, Germany
The project was in collaboration with a glass artist, Michael Schwarzmuller. Along with working on the project, it was insightful to learn the craft of glass blowing through Michael's lens and get to know his more than a decade of experience in the glass industry.
